With a new title sponsor – The Tata Group, the best international tennis player field ever in India, and the most informed fans in the country, the Nungambakkam tennis stadium courts in Chennai hosted an unforgettable week of smashing tennis action at the Tata Open 2002 held from December 31st 2001 and January 6th 2002.
This year’s event saw Thomas Johansson, Fabrice Santoro, Andrei Pavel, defending champion Michal tabara, runner-up Stoliarov and Dominic Hrbaty battle it out for the singles title. In the end, top seed Guillermo Canas battled it out with the 22-year old ‘Thai-ger’ Paradorn Srichaphan.
